The Notre-Dame-de-Miséricorde chapel
The chapel of the White Penitents, at the top of the Grand-Rue
At the end of the Grand-Rue, after the Saint-Laurent church, the Notre-Dame-de-Miséricorde chapel marks the way out of the village towards the mountain. It was built in 1623 for the brotherhood of the White Penitents, one of those lay associations which, in Provence, took charge of processions, help for the poor and funerals.
A crossroads of paths
Opposite the chapel start the paths that made the history of the village: the chemin de l'Orge, used by the GR 9A towards the chemin des Roys and the Huveaune springs, and the chemin du Bouaou towards Old Nans. Every hike starting from Nans passes its porch, which makes it the most convenient landmark for meeting up.
Seeing it
The chapel is seen from the outside during a stroll through the old village, walking up the Grand-Rue from the cours Général-de-Gaulle. Openings to the public depend on the parish and local associations.
